Wearable Art

Another form of art and design that I am passionate about is Wearable Art, specifically the ‘World of Wearable Art’, also known as ‘WOW’. WOW is a worldwide design competition, where the body is used as a blank canvas and designers have no limits to the materials they are able to use, giving them the freedom of expression. “The World of WearableArt® competition has encouraged an explosion of creative activity, inspiring designers from a wide range of backgrounds including art, fashion, textile and industrial design, jewellery, architecture, law and home making, to name a few.”

World of Wearable arts is a breathtaking stage performance, where theatre, art and fashion collide. It is held in Wellington, New Zealand each year, with an audience of over 55,000 people. I was fortunate enough to be selected to wear two garments in the 2014 show. This was an experience like no other, to be able to wear garments made by some of the most creative art and fashion minds from New Zealand and around the world, to be able to perform on stage in front of thousands of people, and especially to be able to see   what goes on behind the scenes and the process of how the show is put together.
